unconventional.

did you ever think we’d be here
looking around at the lives we’ve created
or perhaps destroyed
in order to get to this very moment?
i see your beautiful home
and the smiling photos
of your children
and the place in society you’ve made for yourself,
but i have to ask–
is this for me?
with sincerity and love
i commend you.
i am happy for you.
i am not like you.
and i have to ask why
one lifestyle is correct while the other
is frowned upon.

to all the wild hearts howling at the full moon,
chasing waves and making them,
making bridges only to burn them
and feeling like you’ve yet to arrive at your destination,

you are an unconventional truth in my eyes.
