across the way.

i saw you
from across the way
on a cold winter’s morning
as we both waited
for the train.
spring came
and i thought of your face
often
your hands,
the way the fingers intertwined with one another
and you blew into them
to keep out the frosty air.
i sat in parks
recollecting fragments from that day
and thinking what it would be like
to spend evenings together
turning into a summer of weekend getaways
and blossoming love.

with all those thoughts
swirling around my mind,
i had never wanted winter to come so badly,
never dreamed i would trade anything
only for another chance
at meeting you.
