20,000 feet.

on days when i’m 20,000 feet in the air
and two worlds touch, where cloud meets sky,

blue meets white,

human takes flight,

i see a little piece of heaven.

a slice of a universe so colossal

and between my feet and the ground

is the air we breathe.

i am reminded we are finite,

our power limited,

a lovely speck of stardust shaped into physical form

with a mind that things we are invincible.

i toast to my mortality

and the mortality of those below me

and those who’ve passed before me.

it is a wonderful thing to know so definitely

that something greater lingers beyond this life.
