darkness.

when we are children,
we may fear the dark,
its shadowy corners,
its ability to conjure up
the fear of uncertainty
and not being able
to see
what lies ahead.

when we are adults,
some of us continue to fear that space
that has us grasping
for anything concrete,
proof that something is beneath our feet,
tangible in our hands.

i say
bring on the darkness.
i say
bring on the unknown
and let me stumble over my own feet,
for it is in this space
i will learn the most,
become my best,
shine the brightest.
